The basic function of the fixed element (guide rail) of the linear guide system is like a bearing ring, and the bracket for mounting the metal ball is in the form of a "V". The bracket wraps round the top and both sides of the guide rail. In order to guide the working parts of the machine tool, a set of linear guide rails has at least 4 brackets. For aiding massive working parts, the quantity of brackets can be extra than four.
When the working parts of the machine tool move, the steel balls circulate in the bracket grooves, distributing the put on of the bracket to each steel ball, thereby extending the service life of the linear guide. In order to eliminate the gap between the bracket and the guide rail, preloading can improve the steadiness of the guide rail system. The preloading is obtained by installing oversized steel balls between the guide rail and the bracket. The steel ball diameter tolerance is ±20 microns. The metal balls are screened and classified in increments of half microns and set up on the guide rails respectively. The size of the preload depends on the force acting on the metal balls. If the force acting on the steel ball is too giant and the preload time is too long, ensuing in elevated resistance to bracket movement, there will be a stability problem. In order to improve the sensitivity of the system and reduce the resistance to movement, the preload must be reduced accordingly. In order to improve the motion accuracy and accuracy retention, a sufficient preload negative number is required. These are two contradictory aspects.

(1) High positioning accuracy
When the linear guide is used as the linear guide, since the friction of the linear guide is rolling friction, not only the friction coefficient is reduced to 1/50 of the sliding guide, but also the difference between the dynamic friction and the static friction is small. Therefore, when the bed is running, there is no slippage, and the positioning accuracy of μm can be achieved.

The traditional sliding guide will inevitably cause poor platform motion accuracy due to the reverse flow of the oil film, and the lubrication will not be sufficient due to the movement, resulting in the wear of the running track contact surface, which seriously affects the accuracy. The wear of the rolling guide is very small, so the machine can maintain accuracy for a long time.
(3) High-speed motion low-power horsepower
Since the friction of the linear guide is very small, the bed can be operated with less power, especially when the bed works in a regular round-trip operation, and the power loss of the machine can be significantly reduced.
